Cycling and Walking
The Dodington
Lodge Hotel makes an ideal base for those who want to enjoy a mini break,
cycling, walking or both.
By mini break,
we mean anything from an overnight stay, through to a three-day stay, to a full
weeks break, if you would really like to get away from it all!
Location
Our location on
the Shropshire/Cheshire border makes us an ideal location for those who wish to
explore the countryside and all things rural, without spending all day walking
up and down large hills and mountains!
The Sandstone
Trail begins (or ends) in the Whitchurch
Jubilee
Park, which is located a few minutes walk away from the hotel.
The trail runs
for 34 miles, through predominantly the Cheshire
countryside, past castles and hill forts, along and across canals, through
woods and a forest, until it reaches Frodsham.
Along the way, there are a number of circular walks that begin at various
points along the trail.
For cyclists,
there are a number of routes existing that begin and end in Whitchurch, from
easy to difficult, from short to long.
Whitchurch is
also the beginning and the end of Regional Cycle Route 31, which runs from
Whitchurch via the market town of Ellesmere (our local
Lake District
) and onto the border market town of Oswestry, located on the English side of
the England/Wales border.
Whitchurch is
also located on National Cycle Route 45, which begins north of the town, over
the
Cheshire
border and runs through Shropshire to the town of
Ironbridge. The route also continues in other
places in
Shropshire
and beyond.
Route Information
We have many
leaflets about different walking and cycling routes that begin in Whitchurch,
typically from within 5 minutes of the hotel.
We also have information about routes that begin locally, for example,
just over the Cheshire
border in Malpas.
If you wish,
once you have made your reservation we can send you a selection of routes prior
to your stay, in order that you can plan your activities.
We also have a
small stock of publications and maps for sale at the hotel
Accommodation - You
We have ten,
well appointed ensuite bedrooms, all either double or single, including deluxe

what you require by 7pm the night before and it can be provided for you.
We prefer to let you choose sandwich fillings etc, rather than decide for
you!
